I just finished Marc Andreeson's recent article on The Future of the News Business and wanted to share my thoughts on his key points.

Marc reminds us that news publishing can be done by anyone these days. Like all major content industries, anyone with a website and the ability to type can publish content

The caveat central to this discussion, of course, is how well they are actually doing it.

Terrific article and great ensuing dialog on Ron Miller's piece entitled "Web Content Management is a Misnomer in 2014."

This week at Drupalcon was a bit different for me than the prior ones I have gone to these past 6 years. I was mostly on booth duty, speaking with prospective customers, developers, and potential technology partners. So while in the past I've gone to Drupalcon to immerse myself in Drupal technology, this year the trip was more about DPCI's role as a business that does Drupal. Let me just say that it didn't suck - I forget sometimes that at the end of the day, if I'm not out there talking about my company, people aren't going to know what we do and what we're about.

On April 27th, 1999, I incorporated DPCI with some very specific goals in mind. I had just completed working for a very large tech company that went belly-up for being very slipshod with their operations and way too horizontal (AKA, NO strategy). In essence, I just got tired of working for people that had no vision and were making a mess of things by just focusing on making money, not creating specific value for customers. If anyone remembers the late '90's in tech, there was a lot of that going around.

For the past few days, I was feeling deeply troubled by the images and videos all over the Internet that show the tremendous damage that Hurricane Sandy wrought in the New York area. While I was supposed to be at a tech conference starting Thursday, I made the decision to stay here in New York to help out in any way that I could.

Here is a link to a terrific interview of Doug Vann, Drupal trainer extraordinaire, expressing his views on what is holding back mainstream Drupal adoption. In short, Drupal growth is stymied by insufficient resources in the marketplace with suitable technical skills.

Here are my responses to questions asked at an online 'town hall' meeting that occurred Tuesday, September 18th for the Drupal Association's annual Board elections. I am currently running for a seat on that board.

This year there are an incredible number of terrific candidates, so while I don't love my chances for election, I bring a different set of skills from many of the existing board members as well as those running. If elected, those who know me can attest that I will do the best job I can in representing the needs of the Drupal community.

Here's a podcast I participated in with Henrik deGyor a couple of weeks ago. My thoughts on where open source digital asset management software is and where things are going. Enjoy!

Here is a link to a webinar I participated in last week on innovations in multichannel publishing technologies. In it, I present my view of where things are headed with respect to creating and editing content in a media independent manner so that it can be delivered to print, Web, or mobile devices.
