GNU General Public License (GNU GPL) - A free, copyleft license for software. The GNU GPL guarantees the right of people to freely distribute software and modify it. It protects the originator from individuals or companies then attempting to modify the software then distribute it under proprietary license agreements.

The GNU GPL is a standard license agreement that is commonly used in the open-source community to protect the rights of developers that originate open-source programs.
