This is a glossary of Wiki Terms.
PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) - A programming language used to develop dynamic Web pages. PHP is based primarily on free and open-source libraries, and it is often used to interact with information stored in a database.
postback - A Web application development term to describe an action taken by an interactive webpage when the completed results of the entire page and its contents are sent back to the server for processing.
Project Glossary (Also called Data Dictionary) - A list of terms that are relevant to a particular project or program of projects. Terms in the project glossary include any technical terms or newly defined words relevant to the project at hand.
Creating a project glossary is a best practice in project management since it is one tool to mitigate communication errors. Further, it assists in speeding up ramp-up time for new project resources to understand terms of associated with a given project.
Project Management Office (PMO) - An organizational group that is responsible for defining how a company should conduct projects. The PMO is also chartered to offer project management services to any initiative that a company faces. A successful PMO is also mandated to audit governance of project management activities at a company and to continually improve those activities through documenting best-practices.
Many publishers approach us with concerns for the costs of implementing a PMO. As it turns out, companies can start with just one talented project management professional within a PMO to begin implementing best practices. One key to starting is to document a short and easy-to-read project management guide book that includes simple checklists, templates, and other project management artifacts for anyone in the company to work from.
Prototype - An application that either exhibits a subset or a mockup of functionality for a system. Prototypes are created throughout the course of a project for a client to continually evaluate the physical implementation of functional specifications.
Prototypes are also implemented as proof-of-concept baselines to evaluate whether a software program will fit the needs of the business.
