This is a glossary of Wiki Terms.
Scraping Content - Manually or semi-automatically extracting information from a data source,
usually for re-use, e.g. copy-and-pasting content from one content format into
another.
Semantic Web - An evolutionary stage of the World Wide Web where plain-language information is structured in a way that machines can effectively interpret, synthesize, and derive conclusions.
Server switch - An appliance that enables load balancing on a server cluster. In the event that a server becomes overloaded or unavailable, the switch will direct traffic to other servers in order to maintain site performance and uptime.
sideloading - "Sideloading" was a term used in the pre-release version of the Adobe Digital Publishing System. To preview a tablet "Issue" you would produce a issue file out of InDesign and manually load that issue into iTunes to preview on your iPad. Sideloading allowed users a quick way to preview their tablet issue before uploading it to the Adobe servers. Sideloading was discontinued when the pre-release time ended. It was never intended to be a feature of the DPS.
Site stickiness - In Internet parlance, site stickiness is the tendency for a Website to hold the
attention of a reader. Frequently individuals that surf the Internet bounce out
of a site within one or two page views.
If a site has great content or engaging interactive functionality that is
meaningful to that reader, then the person will view many more pages. If an
audience of readers follows this trend, then the site is said to be 'sticky'.
Smooth Scrolling - In the Adobe Digital Publishing System you can build documents to any size vertically so that the page can appear to scroll beyond the normal page boundries.
Smooth Scrolling - In the Adobe Digital Publishing workflow, documents can be created at any height to allow the user to smoothly scroll to the next page without "locking" the view into a one page view.
Source Code - The original programming work created by a developer before it is compiled. Once source code is compiled into object code it becomes very difficult to modify. This is why it is a best practice for organizations to properly store and secure source code as the permanent record of programming work so that it may be modified in the future.
Spy Shot - A sneak peek photograph of a future product that has not been released to the
market. Frequently captured opportunistically by a photographer on location
without permission.
stacks - "Stacks" is a term used in the Adobe Digital Publishing System. A folio file contains stacks of InDesign documents. Each stack inside a folio can contain one or more InDesign documents. The term "stacks" were used during the pre-release of the DPS. Stacks are now reffered to as "Articles." You can think of stacks (articles) as the logical way you would break up a publication for navigation on a tablet device; Cover, Feature, Arts & Entertainment, etc...
